Triathlon season ended for me last Sunday with the Longhorn 70.3. I've been meaning to blog about it all week, but work is sooo busy for me right now, I simply haven't had time.
It's been a long season for me - my first race was in early March, and my last one on Sunday. It was way too long for me - lesson learned - I was pretty burnt out by the end. I have no problem with a run season that long, but triathlon training takes up so much time (particuraly for half and full iron events) that I was running on empty.
Despite a less than thrilled attitude going into Longhorn 70.3, I am glad I raced. I had a good time and got to cheer on friends, several who competed in their first 70.3 event. It was well worth it. I actually did much better than I expected. Did I perform up to my potential - probably not? But, I did pretty good (for me) and still PR'd by several minutes.
When I look back on this season, I am proud of myself. It is amazing to me to look back and see how far I've come, not only this season but over the past several years. This season included an Ironman, two half-ironmans....accomplishing things I never dreamed I could. It was so rewarding, and when I start to complain about training, I take a step back and remember this. The sport of triathlon has done so much for me, and for that I am eternally grateful.
So until Ironman Texas training starts in January, I will focus on my true love - running - and my next big goal - 4 marathons in 4 months (San Antonio, Vegas, Orlando and finishing at home in Austin). San Antonio will be my 10th marathon, and by the time I finish Ironman Texas, I will have 14 marathons under my belt at the age of 32, all but two within the last 3 years. It makes me proud, and remember that I can do anything that I put my mind to!!

Erin vs. Longhorn 70.3
This Sunday it will be me versus Longhorn 70.3. Just in case you were thinking about putting money on it, let me save you the trouble with a spoiler: Longhorn 70.3 will win this face off.
I will finish the race, but it won't be very pretty. I bet my bike pace will be slower than it was for my Ironman and I am only doing half the distance, that's how bad my bike fitness is right now. My bike always needs a tune-up badly, which it will not get before the race ... so I am sure it will be out to get me. :)
I haven't been swimming much either these past two weeks because of work, and I was sick this week as well. And, my wave doesn't go off until 8:35 am, 1 hr and 35 min after the first wave!!! But I still have to get there at the crack of dawn since they close transition so freaking early. Uggghhhh.
I'm being a whiny little baby and I know that. Maybe bitching about it will get it out of my system? I don't think I have complained about any of this stuff to anyone so maybe this will do the trick.

Dear Month of October
Dear Month of October,
You are my least favorite month thanks to work. Serenity now. Please. Why must you swamp me in work during this particular month? Why do we have so many special events in October, and why am I in charge of them all? Most importantly why am I holed up in an office when we are actually having beautiful Fall-like weather in Texas? Why why why?
Sleep. Definitely have not been getting enough of it. Please consider instituting nap time at work.
It’s been a difficult month, dear ol’ October. And we are only 4 days into it. Please don’t do that to me again next year.
Thankyouverylittle,
Erin
