It's not often I don't revolve my entire weekend around training and even more unlike me that I would skip out on a race. But today I did, and don't regret it at all.
After yesterday's ride I was spent. It was 62 miles of crazy wind and heat, of which I pretty much rode the entire thing by myself as there were only a few people who chose the long option. While I was tempted to spend the rest of the day on the couch, we had other plans and I wasn't going to be lame and skip out. First was a going away party for a friend, then we were meeting friends downtown to watch the bike races, which turned into running into more friends and hanging out at the roof top bar watching cycling way later than I had planned.
I realized on the way home making this morning's race probably wasn't going to happen. And, I was fine with it. Spending time with friends and supporting the community event was much more important than sitting at home and going to bed at 9 pm to prep for a 5k race.
When I finally did arise this morning, I thought about getting out for a workout. Heaven forbid I go a Sunday without exercise. But, it's now 10 am, I'm still in my PJ's and my stomach is calling by breakfast tacos, so it looks like it might be a rest day after all. It's okay to miss a workout.

Enjoy your Sunday and those breakfast tacos. 5Ks are way too plentiful anyway! :)
ReplyDeleteThey were good :)
DeleteSleep is a part of training too :) That bike ride sounds intense!
ReplyDeleteVery true. Probably my favorite part actually!
Deleteis that 2nd picture from the roof top bar? that is an awesome view of the race. i would have included a drink in the forefront of the picture but i'm a lush like that.
ReplyDeleteIt is! Yeah, it was a great place to watch the race. The beer was an added bonus :)
DeleteSounds like a fun time, wish I could have joined you. We watched a couple laps of the races, they looked really cool!
ReplyDeleteCan I say thank you for not showing up to D-fest? I got to place bc you didn't show! Although we should want to go up against the best, sometimes it's nice to push it hard & place! :P
ReplyDeleteHaha! Congrats Jenn! I hope you enjoyed the race. It's a fun one - hopefully next year I'll get my act together and actually make it to the start line. Take care!
